#18 - "Plenty to go around..."

Whom do you blame for Macbeth's downfall?  Is he a victim of his wife's manipulative words and proddings, or is his own "vaulting ambition" ultimately the cause of his demise?

I think Macbeths downfall was his own fault. He was the one who was going insane and letting his ambition take over him.

I blame Macbeth for his own downfall becuase it was his own ambition that got him into the mess he was in. Lady Macbeth did have a part in his demise at the end becuase she talked him up into doing half the things he did.

Most people would probably argue that Lady Macbeth’s manipulative ways were responsible for Macbeth’s downfall. Personally, I believe that Macbeth only has him to self to blame for his downfall. He let the witches apparitions get the best of him by believing everything they told him. Once he believed them he let his ambition lead the way to his demise. Although Lady Macbeth did influence Macbeth, ultimately he was the one responsible for his actions that would cause his downfall not her.

I blame Macbeth for his own downfall because he did it to himself. All he wanted was power and to be king simply because that's what the witches told him. He went and killed people just to get what he wanted when really after each murder, he felt nothing but regret. Lady Macbeth didn't really help him think straight though because she wanted him to have power and she manipulated him.

I believe the witches, Lady Macbeth, and Macbeth himself all had a part in Macbeth's downfall. The witches told Macbeth about him being crowned king and becoming the Thane of Cawdor. This put the idea in Macbeth's mind that we was destined to be king. However, Lady Macbeth persuaded Macbeth into killing Duncan and doing wrong to get to his spot on the throne faster. Macbeth also listened to his wife and ignored his conscience.

I would blame Macbeth for his own actions. No one ever said he had to listen to everything his wife told him to do in the first place. It's his own fault because he took control and over used his power.

I blame Macbeth for his own downfall because he made the choice to listen to Lady Macbeth because no one can make you do anything you don't truly want to do. So it was ultimately because of his own ambition that he met his death.

I would blame Macbeth's inability to make decisions on his own. I would blame Lady Macbeth for egging him on so much to kill Duncan. But his strong ambition to become king is also at fault.

I think at first Macbeth was tempted by his wife and the three witches but then ambition kicked in and took over making Macbeth a ruthless king and killer. I blame Macbeth's downfall on

I think that Lady Macbeth is the cause for his downfall. But even tho Lady Macbeth was very munipulative Macbeth should have stood his groud.

The only person to blame for Macbeth's downfall is himself. You can try and bend the situation to make it seem like it is Lady Macbeth's fault but it is all his. Macbeth could have listened to his wife but not have acted. Macbeth shows at the end of the play that he didn't actually care for his wife in the end anyway. She was just a playing piece in the grand scheme of Macbeth's master plan to take over Scotland.

I blame Macbeth for his own downfall. Yes, he may not be able to help it but his "vaulting ambition" is the part of him that led to the downfall. Sure, his wife manipulated him, but without his want for power and without having that determination he wouldn't have even considered doing what his wife said.

I blame Macbeth for his downfall. If he could just control his ambition then he would've never caused so many murders. He should've just done what he had planned to do in the beginning, just to wait for fate to decide. It's not like Lady Macbeth forced him to kill King Duncan it was his choice and he knew how bad he wanted to be King.

In my opinion, the cause of Macbeth's fall from power would have to be mostly the result of his one tragic flaw throughout the play of "ambition" to take over possession of the throne from King Duncan. Perhaps Macbeth was too ambitious, and desired possession of the throne too much that he was willing to exercise extreme measures in an attempt to get a hold of what he greatly desired.

I blame Macbeth for his own downfall. It was his own fault for not making his own decisions in the first place.

I blame Macbeth's downfall on boht of the factors that contributed to it. At the beginning of the play it is his fault for listening to his manipulative wife, but then when it reaches the climax of the play it is his own ambition that gets him killed.

In a way it is his own fault. His wife was a huge part of it too though. He should have stuck up for himself and waited to see if he would actually become king. He didnt have to give into her words. He had many of those acts commited without his wifes help. She just sort of lead him on and he kept continuing.

I think Macbeth's downfall is the result of the combination of his powerfull ambition and lady macbeth angering the witches.

I blame Macbeth for his downfall. No one can really make you do anything you don't want to do. It is all about choices. He made the wrong choices.

It is Macbeth's fault for listening to his wife, for believing the witches, and allowing his aspiration to take him over.

Bernadette said...

I thin that it is Macbeths own fault for his downfall. It is one thing to do something because it is what you think that you should do, but another to listen to what someone is telling you to do and doing it. Even though Lady Macbeth is very pursuasive, Macbeth didn't have to listen her. Peer pressure is the best example of this. Even though kids doing drugs pressure you into doing them, you still have a choice. If you do them and wonder why you are changing and getting addicted to them its no ones fault but your own.

I believe Macbeth is to blame for his own downfall. He is a victim of his wife's manipulative words but he should know better than to fall into her trap. Macbeth is his own person and if he could just control his ambition, he would be able to change the situation for the better. This would not have caused the murder of King Duncan either.

Personally, I think Macbeth's downfall was his own to blame. Although Lady Macbeth manipulated him to begin to make bad decisions, Macbeth let it get to him. He also listened to the witches apparitions which got to his ambition and led him to his demise. Macbeth was the only person responsible for his actions that could lead to his downfall.

For Macbeth's downfall i blame Lady Macbeth, The witches and ambition. Macbeth is a victim of his wife's manipulative words and prodding and his own ambition. Both of these things play an important role in the downfall of Macbeth.

I think the Macbeth is responsible for his downfall. He wants so much power he will do anything for it. He’s almost asking for a fight because he will do anything such as kill the king, his best friends family and even his best friend. You must have a pretty strong craving and a ton of ambition for you to do those things. He basically got what he asked for. There are certain limits that people should make, and once you go to far in, its very hard to get out.

I blame Macbeth for his own downfall, his over confidence got the best of him. I believe Lady Macbeth did have a part in Macbeth's downfall because, she was manipulating him. An example of this is when Macbeth was doubting wether to kill King Duncan or not and because, of Lady Macbeth calling Macbeth a coward he went through with it. This and Macbeth's ambitions ultimately led to his demise.

I blame Lady Macbeth for Macbeth's downfall because she manipulated him into doing things that I dont think that he would have done without her pushing him. I think that her pushing him ultimatly led to his demise.

I think it was both of their faults yet if i had to point fingers i would point them at Macbeth because later in the story Lady Macbeth begins to turn fair and Macbeth ignores her on his own ambition to continue to be ruler against divine right.

I think that the downfall of Macbeth is strictly his fault. This is because he has the ability to think for himself and make is own descions. Because he didnt make goodones he feel from power and he has no one to blame becaues nobody forced him to anything on presure and influence from others.

I think that the down fall of Macbeth was his own fault he wouldnt trust any one and was killing people then lead to his down fall

I blame Macbeth for his downfall because he takes everything further then it has to. Ladey Macbeth also has a say because he would of never did any of it if sh didnt make im kill King Duncon.

Marybeth's down fall is his own. He had no other choice in the matter of his own death. He did what he desired. Maybe, it was human nature playing a role in his life more than anything. However, that's no excuse for his actions. His decisions lead to his downfall and for whatever reason lead to make his choices it can never justified with a full correct answer

Yes, i do think his downfall was his fault, he chose to make those decisions, his fault was his ambition.

Macbeth is the blame for his own downfall. His vaulting ambition caused him to do bad things, just to stay in power.

I believe that Macbeth is the blame to his downfall. This is because it was his problem that he believed that the witches were right and that he had to kill everybody in his way. He went insane on himself. He is also the victim of his wife's manipulative words also.

I blame Macbeth for his own downfall. It was his own mistakes that led him to his demise. Macbeth didn’t have to listen to his wife; he could have stopped it right when she suggested killing the king.

Marisa said...

I think that Macbeth’s downfall can only be blamed on himself. He could have not let his wife get to him but, he was too weak. He was also too weak to stop his ambition before it led to the killing of Duncan and Banquo. No one forced him to take any of the actions he took and no one forced him to obsess with becoming King of Scotland.

I pin the blame on Macbeth because of his own mistakes that caused his demise. He didn't have to listen to his wife when she suggested to kill the king but he did it anyway because he wanted to be king now instead of waiting.

It is Macbeth's own fault it was he who made poor choice and he gave in to his tragic flaw and he let it control him Macbeth got what he desevred.

I think that initially it was his wife's fault of the start of his ambition. After she stopped pushing him towards the crown it was his own vaulting ambition that led him to his downfall.

I think Lady Macbeth got into Macbeths head, but it was his choice to follow up on what she said each time. He could of said no but he didn't want to look like a coward which shows what type of person he really is, a coward.

i blame macbeth for his own downfall i think his choice to king the king and his other bad choices way his own fault and he should know better before he commits horrible acts like these.

As humans we make our own decisions and we have the power to choose our futures. I blame Macbeth for his downfall, because he is able to choose his destiny. He could have made different choices that would have led him down a different path He is the reason for his demise. Macbeth's actions and poor direction towards life led him to his death. Being so ambitious, Macbeth ended up harming his future.

Jimmy B said...

The three people/groups that are responsible for Macbeth's downfall are Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and the witches. Taking into account the witches' prophecies and riddles, Lady Macbeth's manipulative words and proddings, and Macbeth's own "vaulting ambition," Macbeth's downfall probably would not have occured if any one of these things was not present. No one of the three was to blame the most because they were all equally to blame. Without the witches' prophecies, Macbeth would never even have gotten the idea to try to become king and reign as king for a long time. Without the manipulative words and proddings of Lady Macbeth, Macbeth would not have went through with his plans in the first place. Without Macbeth's "vaulting ambition," he would have never even devised his own plans to become king in the first place and he would not follow through with his wife's plans for him to become king.

Macbeth is reponsible for his own downfall. He let the power get to his head. Also, the witches' predictions added to Macbeth's arrogance. Had he taken threats seriously, he might of ended up winning in the end instead of his death being celebrated.- Jarred C

I believe that it was Macbeth's own ambition was his downfall mainly because if he had more will power to not let his disires take over his actions he would'nt have had his tragic fall. Lady Macbeth simply aided in facilitating ideas that Macbeth already had.

macbeth downfall is both his and his wife falt macbeth got to excited to become king and also let his wife talk him into becoming king and killing KIng duncan. It was his ambitsion that played a hudge role in his downfall.

Macbeth is the blame for his downfall. His ambition is a major cause for his downfall.

The downfall of Macbeth is is his own fault. Even though Lady Macbeth manipulated him to kill Macduff and many others, he made the decision to follow through. He listened to the witches and thought he was unable to be defeated. His ambition lead him to his decline.

D.J.C. said...

I think Macbeth was the cause of his own downfall because when the witches told him about his future he rushed it and would not take any time to think about it. So his first idea was kill King Duncan so that part was already out. He should've sat back and did what he was doing until his time had come. Even if the witches were just screwing with him and he was never to be king it would be ok if he was still alive with his wife.

Melissa M. said...

I blame Macbeth for his own downfall. He let his ambition take over him and he let Lady Macbeth tell him what to do.

I think his downfall was mostly due to the fact of his ambition. The proddings of his wife were only an accessory to his downfall by his ambition.

I think that Macbeth's downfall is his own fault. He believed what the witches said was truth and didn't listen to what anyone else said. He also let his wife tell him what to do.

He is to blame for his own tragic downfall. He is the character of high stature that has a tragic downfall due to his tragic flaw because he listen to his wife and listened to the witches.

I think that Macbeth is at fault for his own downfall. Sure, Lady Macbeth contributed to it, but if it weren't for Macbeth's "vaulting ambition" and yearning for more and more power he wouldn't have gotten himself killed in the end.

In the end, I cannot see how Macbeth has anyone to blame but himself. Despite external forces, he is the one that made the tragic decisions that led to his downfall. Hw witches and his wife may have served as harassers, but not his mind. He stabbed Duncan, and for that, he is to blame.

samanthab27 said...

I think Macbeth's ambition was the main cause of his downfall. Although he had the witches and Lady Macbeth feeding into his overwhelming ambition for power, he was the one that carried out the tragic decisions. In the end, he had no one to blame but himself.

The only one to blame for Macbeth's downfall is himself. No matter whom he’s getting manipulated by or how much that individual is trying to convince Macbeth to do something he still won't if he truly doesn’t want to. He shouldn’t have been so weak as to fall into peer pressure from his wife and The Three Witches. Macbeth wanted to be king and would do anything in his power to rule Scotland. Macbeth's vaulting ambition is his reason for his downfall and loss of everything he’s gained.
