#3 - Setting Off on a New Adventure...
If you had to choose one, in which of the three societies we have read about ("Harrison Bergeron", "Searching for Summer", or "By the Waters of Babylon") would you want to live. Why? What are the advantages of that society over the other two? What would you be sacrificing?

If I could choose one of the three societies that we read about, I would pick the society in "Searching for Summer". I would pick this one because no one would be trying to change me and I would only be missing out on the sunlight. Most people would still be the same, just with no sun. But,I wouldn't want to live in a place like in "Harrison Bergeron" because I don't want someone to try make me be equal with everyone else. Everyone was made different in their own way and we should all stay like that. I also would not want to live in a place like "By the Waters of Babylon" because then I wouldn't know what was going on everywhere else.
I would choose the story " By the Waters of Babylon." Because in this story you still have your freedom and you still have sunshine, the blue sky and the stars as compared to the other two stories. I would also choose this one because I am in Boy Scouts so I would be able to adapt because of my experience camping and other things.

If I had to choose one of the societies to live in i would choose the society from "By The Waters of Babylon." I chose this one beacause it is set in the future where a nuclear bomb went off in New York City, and either evolution has restarted or i would be a decendant of someone who survived the blast. The advantages of this society over the other two is that everything is in it's place and nothing would be out of place. I would be sacrificing free will to stay with a tribe of people somewhere and not be able to do anything.
If I had to choose to live in a society we read about, I would choose "By the Waters of Babylong". I chose that society because I would want to see the evoulution that was occuring in New York City. The advantages of this society over the others is that I would be able to do what I want and try to get society back together in a city that was once the strongest city in the world. I think in a way i would be sacrificing my sanity. To live somehwere, where a nuclear bomb has struck and human life is gone, I think anyone would loose it a little.
If I had to live in one of the societies of the three short storys. Then I would live in the society of "By The Waters of Babylon" because they have a very interesting society. And they have many a society that has sunlight and is not crazy.
I would chose the story " SEARCHING FOR SUMMER " due to the fact that there is no mind controlling devices or bombs involved. I would be sacrificing sunlight. i could deal with that because no one would be trying tochange me and there would be plenty of pepople for me to socialize with.
It would be a toss up between "Searching for summer" and "By the waters of Babylon". I think i would like "Searching for Summer" more, the main reason being as far as we're told; The only thing that differs is the sunshine. The only con in that society is pale skin and a Vitamin-D deficiency. I think I would also like The society in "By the waters of Babylon". I think it would be cool to be in a hunter-gatherer type society. The problem presented to me by this society is that it is slightly primative. There are no computers, And no means of mass communication throughout the world.

If I were to chose to live in one of these three societies, I would pick the society in "Searching for Summer." I would pick this society because I would still be free. Although most of the time there is no sun and no blue skies, the rare occasion that the sun comes out would give me something to look forward to. I would also still have my freedom unlike the society in "Harrison Bergeron." This society also has the most things in common with today's society unlike the society in "By the Waters of Babylon." However, I hope that I would never have to choose between these societies in real life.

If I had to choose between the different societies of the three short stories, I would choose "By the waters of Babylon" because the sun is much more important to this world then the story makes it out to be in "searching for summer" and i would hate to live in such a controlling society as the one in "Harrison Bergeron"
Although my favorite of the short stories by far was "By the Waters of Babylon", I would choose to live in the society of "Searching for Summer." I would be sacrificing sunlight, summer, and warm temperatures, but I don't mind because my favorite season in terms of temperature is the fall. Also, my favorite time of day in terms of how much light there is outside is the evening/night. In the "Searching for Summer" future, the whole daytime would be like evening and the rest would be like night. I would miss the stars, but they would be a necessary loss. The loss of the stars, sunlight, and summer weather is nothing compared to having to wear handicaps everywhere. Also, I would not want to live in "By the Waters of Babylon" because I would not want to give up technology, which the other two stories still have.
If I had to choose one society that we've read about to live in, I would choose the society from "Searching for Summer." I would choose this because it is most similar to the society we live in now. The ownly downfall would be that the sun would rarley be seen. I think that with our tecnology we would be able to live with minimal sun. I would not wish to live in the the society of "Harrison Bergeron" because I disagree with the everyone should be equal in the way the story tells about it. I would not want to live in the society from "By the Waters of Babylon" becuase the society is a wreck and people know nothing about their past.
The society that I would choose to live in would be from the story "Searching For Summer". I would pick this society because of the order, freedom and civilization. Unlike "By the waters of Babylon" civilization still exists and the apocalypse hasn't occurred. You could also live your life by being better than someone and not having to equal yourself to them. Such as the society in "Harrison Bergeron". The only downside would be sacrificing sunlight. This is a small price to pay in comparison to the other societies.
If I had to choose to live in on of these three societies I would pick "Searching for Summer." I would pick this society over the others because no one is trying to turn me into something I am not or fitting me into "normal society." I would be sacrificing the sun, but I would be able to deal with that with the help of friends and family. We would also look forward to the short moments of sunlight and appreciate what we have.
If I had to choose one of the three societies we have read about in class, I would choose “Searching for Summer.” I would want to live in this one because it will be most similar to my normal life, except for the fact that the skies aren’t blue and the sun is rarely seen. The sky and the sun would be the only two things I would be sacrificing, plus not being able to tan. If I lived in this society I would be motivated to find the sun and be able to capture its beauty. Unlike “Harrison Bergeron”, I would still have my freedom. If I chose to live in “By the Waters of Babylon”, I wouldn’t be able to find out anything going on throughout the world.

If i had to choose any of the three societies to live in out of the books we read it would be "Searching for Summer". I would want to live in this soceity because you still have all the freedoms you need and there is many people still around. The sacrifice that i would be giving up is haveing sunlight.
If I had to live in one of these societys I think that I would like to live in "By the Waters of Babylon" because I would have an interest in finding out what happened to past societys and I also feel that it would be like the survival of the fittest which seems awsome because I think that I would be good at hunting for food. The advantages of this society would be that every one is pretty much equal in having to find and hunt for food. Disadvantages are that the only means of comunication are by word of mouth and because there are no computers society will basicaly be thrown back into the stone age. I would not want to live in a society like "Harrison Bergeron" because it is total equality which restricts our ability to use are thoughts and express our feelings.
The story book “The Giver", by Lois Lowry reminds me a bit about the societies in “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut.
In "The Giver", the world was basically a utopian/dystopian society where people are not allowed to be different. Power was given to only a few characters of the story. No one else even knew what colors, emotions and rule breaking were besides the chosen few. For example the “Giver” was a man, he was the only one who knew the history of life, or knew what colors were. Everyone else saw in gray shades, everyone else never even knew what the taste of an apple was or knew that in history horrible, good, sad and happy things that could happen without certain rules. Everyone was plain and simple and were basically mind washed. These people were taught certain things yet had they the ability to think while not straying from the the perfect world going. If they did stray they would disappear. Only one "Giver" was given the knowledge to know all things and all real truths. He had to teach someone young all these hidden things about life so if the utopian world didn’t work out as planned they would have a keeper of information.
However, in “Harrison Bergeron,” the story line reminds me of a world where people were different. These characters the author, Vonnegut, describes people I can portray in my everyday life (which is an advantage because if I had to live in a world like Harrison Bergeron, I would have sense of how to act or get along with most people). Those who were smarter and more beautiful were not even considered as people. Instead they were punished.
A way of life was created to make everyone equal. It worked for a little while but there was always a higher power or a thought that life wasn’t so perfect. I think this book tries to show that even with no differences and with everyone trying to act and be the same there would be chaos and mixed feelings about what is equal.
In both books “The Giver” and “Harrison Bergeron”, they describe differences and similarities that set the world alive and gives us our own part in life. I just don’t find much interest in the story’s "By the Waters of Babylon” and “Searching For Summer”. Probably because I don’t want to know what happens after a nuclear bomb or a life without sun. I would not be too happy if those two things occured in my life time. I also wouldn’t want to sacrifice a good life for a life I wouldn’t know how to survive in.
if i could pick one society to live in I would pick searching for summer. I would pick this because even though there is no sun, life is other wise unchanged. Also I would not be subject to the handicaps of Harrison Bergeron or how primitive by the waters of Babylon is.
Out of the three futuristic stories we have read this year, “Harrison Bergeron”, “Searching For Summer”, and “By the Waters Of Babylon”, I would prefer to live in the “Searching For Summer” society. The other two societies are more violent and corrupt. In “Harrison Bergeron” the people are tortured and disabled for equality. What’s the point of obtaining equality if you cant enjoy it? In “By The Waters Of Babylon” people respect and follow priests because of their supposed powers. I wouldn’t want to be ruled based off of something false. Although the “Searching For Summer” society is some what corrupt in that people will do anything for sunlight, it’s more like the present than the other two. The things I would be sacrificing would be sunlight and my skin health. I would have to resolve to tanning beds and spray tans which clearly aren’t good for you, but this society is the closest thing to what we have now.
If I had to choose one of the three societies I read about, I would choose "Searching for Summer". I would pick this one because, even though there is no sunlight due to the nuclear bomb, at least I still have my rights and I would know what is going on in the world. I don't want people to try to make me equal like in "Harrison Bergeron". I also would want to know what is going on everywhere else in the world unlike in "By the Waters of Babylon".
if i had to pick a society to live in i would choose "BY THE WATERS OF BABYLON".I would choose this one because this one is more of an adventure to find ones self and find more about your live that you didnt know before. The other reason is because in this story you have sun and freedom, and the other stories dont .
If I had to choose one of the three societies to live, I would choose "Searching for Summer". I would choose this because I would be an individual. Even though the sun rarely comes out because of the use of bombs, I would miss waking up and seeing the sun. I still would rather be a free individual than be restricted in societies like "Harrison Bergeron" or "By the Waters of Babylon". In "Harrison Bergeron" people are forced to be equal to one another and there is no individuality involved within this society. In the society of "By the Waters of Babylon", the citizens have no contact with the outside world or other outside civilizations. -Danielle W
Out of the three societies we've read about I would pick the civilization in "By the Waters of Babylon" to live in. Although in the story New York City was in ruins I would have perfered to live there than in the socities in "Searching for Summer" and "Harrison Bergeron". “By the Waters of Babylon” also had multiple advantages over the other stories. One factor would include how it had all the technology and inventions from the people before them, which could help for the people to rebuild society and figure out ways to improve their civilization. It also had sunlight, which “Searching for Summer” did not have. Another advantage was how unlike the people living in “Harrison Bergeron” equality was not an issue. Their society was filled with handicaps to make everyone equal, but it made life more hectic then “By the Waters of Babylon” could ever be. Although I believe “By the Waters of Babylon” was the best choice I would still have to scrafice technology and having to build a city from the ruins.
If I had to Choose one society to live in, it would be the society in the story "Searching for Summer". In that story, nothing about the world has changed except that there is no sun. The sun is not that big of a deal. Everyone is still as happy as they were, and nobody seems to mind that the sun is missing. I mean sure, maybe people "want" to see it. This doesn't cause them to have any less visible enjoyment of life.
if I had to choose out of the three societies, "Harrison Bergeron", "Searching for Summer", or "By the Waters of Babylon", I would pick "By the Waters of Babylon" because since I believe that it is a good idea for the world to have a fresh start. Reason being, is there is too much racism and violence going on in the world over ridiculous reasons like religion. I think that if the world began with a new step forward we might be able to relinquish all that is evil in this world.
If I had to choose a society we read about I would choose "By the Waters of Babylon" because I could shape the new world in any way I wanted, if I had the power. I would also like to herd the remaining humans away from a future of technology and devastation, like what happened in the "Place of the Gods". If I lived in that society I could help remake the world into a better and healthier place, where animals, humans, and the natural elements of earth would live in harmony. The advantages of living in that particular society over the others we read about would be a fresh start, potential for a healthier world, and a new culture. I would be sacrificing normal comforts and advances of our world today. But I think a new start would do the world some good. We have become too dependent on technology and we have tarnished our earth, it's animals, and ourselves. We need to re-think our methods and ways of life and correct them before the universe corrects them for us, by destroying and rebuilding itself.
i would choose to live in searching for summer because there is no major effect on the people in this society in my opinion. although there is hardly ever any sun and it may be a little depressing i would rather live through it then having a transmittor in my ear 24/7 and carrying loads on my back or living in a society where the civilization has fallen and all you have is nature and your family
If I had to choose one society that we've read about to live in, I would choose the society from "Searching for Summer." This society let's the people still have their freedom, like ours. Unfortunately this society rarely ever sees the sun, which would be very different to live with. Seeing the sun in this society would give me great hope, just like it did for the characters in the story. The society in "Harrison Bergeron" had many disadvantages due to their "equality" and would be very difficult to live with. Also, I would not want to live in "By the Waters of Babylyn" because unlike the other two stories, this one doesn't have the advantage of technology.

If I had to choose one of the three societies that we read about to live in, I would probably pick "Searching for Summer" because it's the only story that provides entertainment. Being in this kind of society I think would be a little more relaxed and less pressure. In "By the Waters of Babylon," their live style seemed dull and everything was based off of a belief. The past was unclear and I don’t think I could live like this because I would always be questioning everything. In "Harrison Bergeron," you were not allowed to be different or work harder to achieve something greater. I would never be able to deal with laws you had to follow in this story. I think the purpose of being in this world is to strive for success and to stand out from everyone else. Your goal SHOULD be to be different, not to be like everyone else! If I did live in “Searching for Summer” I would unfortunately have to sacrifice the privilege of not being tan. Sunlight is a very important thing to me because it does make me very happy. Although sunlight is one of my favorite things on the Earth, I do enjoy rain and darkness so I wouldn’t mind no sun, plus I would get used to it. I also think it would be very interesting to have to search for the sun. Living somewhere where there is never any sunlight would also give everyone a wake up call to appreciate the things we have now that we take for granted.
I would like to live in the society in "By The Waters of Babylon" because the society seems to have the least amount of damage done to it. I wouldn't like to live in a society with no sunlight like in "Searching for Summer" or society where everyone is forced to be the exact same like in "Harrison Bergeron". The only major damage done to the society in "By The Waters of Babylon" is a destroyed New York City.
-Billy Tregs
If I could choose to live in the society of "Harrison Burgeron", "Searching for Summer" or "By the Waters of Babylon" I would pick " Searching for Summer". I would pick that society because it is similar to our way of life now but the difference is that the "Searching for Summer" society rarely ever sees the sun. I don't think it would be too much of an issue because with the constant advancement of technology we would be able to figure something out. I would not want to live in "Harrison Burgeron" because everyone was equal in a painful way and had to wear handicapps to obtain that equality. No one could stand out, be special, different and unique. I would also not like to live in "By the Waters of Babylon" because I would have to follow and obey ridiculus rules by the priests and not trully know what happened in my world. I would rather sacrifice living without sunlight any day than wear handicapps to "fit in" and not know passed events about my society.
If i had to choose one society out of the short stories that we read i would choose "harrison bergeron" beacuse i would like the chance to be in this socoety to maybe become a hero for standing up in what i believe in and helping what right and not whats wrong in that society.
I would choose to live in the "By the waters of Bablyon society. I would choose this because there is no really strong goverment that would run your life and with less technology war is more unlikely. With this society there are more secrects to unlock, lands to be explored and a more simple lifestyle. However primitive technology is a bad thing as well and maybe not a strong enough goverment to maintain order and people have less knowledge about the past.
If I had to choose between the three societies we read about, I would live in the society in "Searching for Summer".In this story you are accepted as an individual and no one can change you. Even though I love the sun and the warmth of it, I would rather be accepted for who I am rather than having sunlight and having to wear a mask.
If I had to choose one of the three societies we read about i would choose "Searching for Summer" because in this society it is no different from the one we live in except this society rarely sees the sun. The advantages of living in this society is you still have your freedom and rights. The only things I would be sacrificing is sunlight.
If I had to choose one of the three societies that we read about, I would pick the society in "Searching for Summer". I would pick this one because the world has not drastically been changed. Although there is no sun, I would prefer to live in a place with no sun then to have to wear devices like in "Harrison Bergeron". Also, no one would be changing me or the way I look or act. Although I would be sacrificing the sun, I think it would add adventures and I would be determined to set out and find the sun, just like Lily and Tom in the story.
I would want to live in the society from "Searching for Summer". I would want to live in this society because since there is no sunshine it wouldn't be as hot and when you do finally find sunshine, you will appreciate it. Although in this story there is no sunshine it is better then the other 2 because government has not taken over control. In "Harrison Bergeron" and "By the Waters of Babylone", Government gave it self complete control over the society and have a lot of power over the people. I would be sacrificing have the sun out every day but at least I would have a free, un-limited, life.
If I had to choose one of the three short stories to live in I would choose "By the Waters of Babylon".Out of the three books "By the waters of Babylon" I think has a better chance to restart and rebuild society. I say this because in "Harrison Bergeron" all the new laws restricts humanity to have creative and indifferent thoughts. Also in "Searching for Summer" because of the previous nuclear war it distorts the peoples way of life. I say this because people long for the chance to see the sun or even green grass. I want to live in "By the Waters of Babylon" because it is a fresh start of rebuilding. In that book the people has a better chance to rebuild because the old laws doesn't exist which the people has to make up new ones unlike "Harrison Bergeron" where all the laws that were made restricts the people. Also in "By the Waters of Babylon"
I would choose the society of "By The Waters of Babylon". In this story society is not as advantaced. The society survives under minimal conditions and they can build up their society again to be more technilogically advanced. There is no goverment controlling the people.
Out of all three of the societies we had read about in class I would prefer to live in the society of "Searching for Summer". I picked this society because of the fact that the society remains the same and that the government does not have much control like in the stories "Harrison Bergeron" and in "By The Waters Of Babylon". In these societies the government is too powerful and the people are too weak. Although in the society of Searching For Summer it is impossible to find some type of sunlight. I think it is still worth sacrificing the ability to see sunlight rater then not having the ability to be my own person not what the rest of society or the government think of what type of person I could be.
If I had to choose between the three societies we had read about, I would want to live in the society of "Searching for Summer", In this story, they are independent and no one can change who they already are. In "Searching for Summer", their scoiety is just like ours. We have our rights and noone has taken us over. The only thing we would have to do, is sacrifice the sun.
If I could choose one of the three societies that we read about, I would pick the society in "Searching for Summer". I would pick searching for summer because society would still be alive and nobody would be trying to take control over me and try to tell me what i could say and think. over the other two societies it has freedom and civilization. i would be sacrificing the sun and the enjoyment of being in sunlight.
If I had to choose 1 society to live in from all of the choices above, I believe I'd choose to live in By The Waters Of Babylon. I feel like there's alot of symbolism, and it's in one of the best known places on Earth, and it's interesting to see how society may or may not change.

If I had to choose one of the three societies, I would choose "Searching for Summer" over the other two. My reasoning for this is because in "Searching For Summer," the people have freedom and equal rights. However, in "Harrison Bergeron," everyone if forced to be equal in this society. In addition, in "By The Waters of Babylon," the citizens of this society have no connection whatsoever with the outside world. Having said that, I would have to sacrifice some things that I would not want to lose. To explain, I would have to give up the sun and its warmth because of the nuclear weapons that caused this conflict. Also, I would be sacrifing the stars and rainbows that I would lose forever. But, I feel this is a small price to pay to live in a world without the pressures of being equal, or being isolated to my society.

Out of these three stories, I'd pick to live in "Searching for Summer". I'd pick this story because in "Harrison Bergeron", they have no freedom or free thought. I wouldn't pick "By the Waters of Babylon" because I feel that they keep too many secrets in their society. In "Searching for Summer", I would have a fighting chance to reach my goal of finding sunllight. I wouldn't be controled by crazy laws or be forbiddon to travel east.-Jarred C
I would want to live in "By the Waters of Babylon" because there is an easier lifestyle and you know someone for who they are and not how they are made out by technology. The benefits are that you could live your life without the worry of having to know everything and worrying about every move you make on the internet
-Sarah S. P8
I would want to live in "Searching For Summer" because they have freedom. In "Harrison Bergeron" they weren't free. I also wouldn't choose "By The Waters of Babylon" because the time period was to long ago.

If i had to choose a society to live in i would pick the society in "Searching for Summer" because unlike the other books i would have my freedom still. The other reason id pick "Searching for Summer" is because i think when tom and lily found the sun they felt very accomplished so i would want to feel accomplished like them.
If i had to choose, i'd choose to live in "Searching For Summer." I'd choose to live here because society is pretty much the same, there is no chaos, except for the fact that there's no sun. This society seems less dangerous than the others. That's why i'd live in "Searching For Summer."
If I had to choose one of the short stories to be a part of I would choose "Searching for Summer". I'm not that big on sun light so it would not really affect me. The advantages of this society is that you couldn't get skin cancer because there would be no sun for us to burn. Also it probably wouldn't be 'cool' to tan anymore so that's perfect for me because i don't get tan. I would have to give up outdoor activities because it would probably be to dark to go outside.
If I had to choose a society to go live in it would have to be the society from "Searching for Summer" because the society seems to be the most stable and easy to live in. There is no dramatic handicaps or destroyed societys in this society only the lack of sunlight.
Out of all the three short stories that we read for class I would live in the society in "Searching for Summer." The only thing I'm sacrificing is sunlight. There is no corruption or people trying to change who I am. There aren't any nuclear bombs or human destruction either.
If i had to choose a society, from the three short stories we red in class, I would most likely choose “Searching for Summer”. First off, the setting is in the UK, which is much better than the other two american settings. I have to be honest, I would not want to live in any of these societies, but I feel that the society described in “Searching for Summer” is the least miserable. In “Harrison Bergeron” their is a totalitarian government, that has characteristics of a kleptocracy. Aside from an awful government, you have zero free will. So If you could choose, wouldn’t you choose to have free will? I would choose free will over no free will any day. I wouldn't choose to live in “By the Waters of Babylon” because all modern knowledge has been lost. At least in “Searching for Summer” I would have a decent government, and retain modern culture.
If I had to choose which society I would want to live in I would choose the short story "Searching for Summer" because it is the most similar to the society that we live in now, except for having no sun. I would also want to live in that type of society because I would still be free. I would not like to live in "Harrison Bergeron" because there would not be any freedom and you would not be able to express your true self.
If I had to choose to live under the conditions of one of the short stories we read about in class I would choose "By the Waters of Babylon." I would pick this one the characters of this story have much more freedom, independence, and free will than the characters in "Harrison Bergeron." I would choose "By the Waters of Babylon" over "Searching for Summer" because a world with little to no sunlight would be a depressing and cold one that I would not like to live in. Even though in "By the Waters of Babylon" the people live in unadvanced tribes it would still be the better alternative because at least they are blissfully ignorant of what they could have had, unlike those of the other stories.
If I had to choose a society to live in out of the 3 short stories we read in class, I would choose the society in "Searching for Summer." The reason for my choice would be because in the other two short stories we read in class both society's had some sort of real problem, in "Harrison Bergeron" the government was getting overpowered, and in "By the Waters of Babylon" the culture has regressed. In "Searching for Summer" the only real problem is there is no sun, which could be much more easy to deal with than the other two choices.
I would choose to live in the searching for summer scocioty because their are no extream restrictions and it is still a modern scocioty abd allso because their is a clean spot in the sky and thir arwe pacthes of sun coming up all the time so it looks like their is soon hope
I would want to live in the society of Harrison Bergeron. There is so much judgement in the world today that I think we may be better off all being equal. In places like our school, you see lots of social rankings like popular, emo, nerd, unpopular, and (I'm not just saying this because I'm not "popular") it really isn't fair. Sure, sacrifices would have to be made, such as compromising my intelligence or creative mind, but a world without judgement would exist with so much more peace.
I would choose to live in "Searching for Summer" even though they cant find any type of sunglight. It sounds like a better place to be, where the government isnt strong. In "Harrison Bergeron", everyone needs to be equal. Noone can be different in their own way. I also wouldent want to live in "By the Waters of Babylon", because you need to follow unimportant rules by preiests. I would be sacrificing sunlight because they struggle to find it.
If i had to choose one of these societies I would pick "Searching for Summer" because they are living a normal life just without the sun. I wouldnt want to live in "Harrison Bergeron" because then i would have to be the same as everyone else. I also wouldnt want to live in a place like "By the Waters of Babylon" because then i wouldnt know what was going on in the rest of thee world.
Jessica S.
If I had to chose one of these three societies to live in I would definitely chose "Searching for Summer". This is due to the fact that I would still have my freedom and individuality. I wouldn't like to live in a society like in "Harrison Bergeron" because you would have an insane government which had no clue when enough was enough. I would not like to live in almost ancient times like in "By the Water's of Babylon" because this society had to pretty much start over from nothing. Atleast in "Searching for Summer" the people had someething to look forward to if they knew where to find the sun.
I would want to live in the society from "Searching for Summer". In "Searching for Summer" there is no sunlight and sunlight really isn't going to have a big affect on me. You also wont get skin cancer and it will never be hot out. Even though there is no sunlight it is better then the other two because its government has not taken over. I'd pick this story over "Harrison Bergeron" because in "Harrison Bergeron" they have no freedom.
if i had to choose one of the three societes to live in i would pick "Searching for Summer".id pick that because you still have the right and freedom to do things. i wouldnt want to live in the society of "Harrison Bergeron" because they have to much equality that would get annoying easily. and in "By the Waters of Babylon" you pretty much had to start over with everything so i wouldnt like that eaither.
If I had to choose to live in one of those societies I would choose to live in the "Searching for Summer" society because it is a similar society to present day's society except for the lack of sunlight which i wouldn't mind because no one would be trying to change me or tell me false rules that are rediculous

if i had to choose to live in one of the societies i would choose to live in the "By the Waters of Babylon" society. i would choose this one becuase in think it would be cool for everything to start over new and you no longer need to worry about the stupid things in the old society.
I would want to live in Searching for Summer because everything is still the same if you are in the right part of the world. One of the advantages over Harrison Bergeron is that everyone can be themselves and they are not controlled by the government. One advantage over By the Waters of Babylon because in this short story no one knows anything about the past and they have to start a new. I would be sacrificing the power to see the sun when ever I want during the day.
I would want to live in the society of "By the Waters of Babylon" because it seems to be a good place/world to lvie in but the only downside is there is zero existance in New York. I would be able to live somewhere else and do things normally so the loss of an area would not affect me too much/at all.
Out of these three societies i would like to live in "Searching For Summer" because it seems like the best out of all three... the most normal. and because most people in the story seem happy, Lilly and tom found happiness, in Harrison burgeon people went happy with their government or their society.
I would want to live in the society of "Searching For Summer" because all i would have to do is get the sun back. And every thing is still the same and i'd be with my friends. The advantage it has over "Harrison Bergeron", is that I can be myself and not be like everyone else. Another advantage it has over "By the Waters of Babylon", is that I wouldn't know how things were going anywhere else. I'd be sacrificing the sun, but i think I can live with that.
I feel if i could choose from one of the three stories that i would live in the setting of "By the Waters of BAbylon" I would like to live in this time because this book intrested me the most. It intrested me because of its idea that we can start a new life as a humanity such as a second chance. Also the fact that were starting from scratch and the knowledge of the wepons has been long rid of except for the ruins of which the city lays in. I would be sacrificing the order that was once maintained in society to now go live like the hill people mentioned in the book. Also the knowledge that weve been giving up the knowledge of common ethics and order. Kyle O.
I would like to live the short story "Searching for Summer" because in that short stoy you had a partner unlike the other stories and even though there was no sun other than that it seemed normal. This is also a good thing for me because i am very pail and get sunbured easily so now i dont have to worry about skin cancer if I lived in this short story. Overall this would be the best socioty out of the three because it is the most normal but5 i am sacrificing the sun.

If I had to choose out of the three short stories we read I would choose "By The Waters of Babylon". This is because besides the nuclear bomb that went off, there is no damage that is in the near future. The advantages of this setting is that there is still sunlight and everyone has freedom to be who you are. I would be sacrificing however the differential of cultures all around me.

I would rather live in "Searching for Summer" because it is better to have my freedom to use my talents and express my self. Rather then having the handicaps of "Harrison Bergeron". I also would rather be in a modern day world without daylight then being in a deystroyed modern day world with no knowledge.
I would to prefer to live in "Searching for Summer" due to the fact that it is in modern day. I would also have some freedoms to do what makes me happy in life. The only thing that would be a problem for me is the fact that there is no daylight. But besides that it would still be fun.
If I had to choose a society to live in, I would choose BY THE WATERS OF BABYLON.I would choose this one because in the setting there is all freedom and you can pave your own society.
